One in five women in the United States will not have a biological child, and Christen Reighter is one of them. From a young age, she knew she didn't kids, in spite of the insistence of many people (including her doctor) who told her she'd change her mind. In this powerful talk, she shares her story of seeking sterilization -- and makes the case that motherhood is an extension of womanhood, not the definition.

Mia Kay
Mia Kay Thank you for this talk. I feel the same way.
MELODY MUNRO The day I had my hysterectomy was one of the happiest days of my life. From my first period until my last 22 years later, every month my period came with 2-3 days of pain and migraines. I never wanted children and i hated the monthly pain. Turns out my uterus was full of grapefruit sized fibroids. Thankfully I am in Australia, so the hysterectomy (including all consultations, operation and hospital care) were free.
Sandy Beach
Sandy Beach I’m conflicted . I admire you ! I do know from my experience and other family members that your not the same person in your late thirty’s and forty’s that you were in your 20s. So yes, people do and often change their minds. I would love you listen to you agai in 20 years . I am NOT judging but know people change their thinking . All the best
ReneeEpona There is a price for being childish and that price is heavy. Loneliness is a darkness and has depth in middle age and old age. Our life and perspectives change drastically from our youth to middle age. The best thing I ever did was have my daughter.
Eric Anderson
Eric Anderson Who cares.
